Bunsoi and the Gang on Their Lake Sebu Experience
Posted on 23. May, 2009 by Bunsoi in Campus Life, Teen Random Thoughts
Last May 16 and 17, Bunsoi and his classmates from BS Accountancy Section 1-C of the Ateneo de Davao University, went to Lake Sebu for their History 111 class field trip.
LAKE SEBU FIELD TRIP INFO
Places We Visited:
Punta Isla Lake Resort and the T’boli Museum. We were also supposed to go to their famous Seven Falls but because of lack of time and since the weather wasn’t cooperating because t’was raining, we opted not to go there for everyone’s safety.
If you’re interested with our class trip, you might want to fasten your seatbelt, and travel back with our Lake Sebu journey. Woot!

We were supposed to board off Davao by 5 in the morning, but since our Eng21 class teacher didn’t allow us to excuse from his class that day, we met the entire Hist111 class at 11am at the Roxas Gate of the Ateneo de Davao University.
The trip was very comfortable since we rented one airconditioned bus from Yellow Bus Lines for only PHP 33,000. So, it was only our class who used the entire bus back and forth. So you can only imagine how crazy we were at the bus. Eating, singing and shouting like there’s no tomorrow. But it was really fun, haha. We even took pictures even though the bus was mobile.
The trip from Davao to GenSan is 3 hours, then from GenSan to Lake Sebu is another 2 hours and a half. So, all in all, it took us roughly 5.5 hours from Davao to Gensan. We boarded off from Davao by 11am and arrived at Lake Sebu by 5.30pm. Then we immediately took looootttsss of pictures. Majority of the pictures posted in this blog entry is courtesy of Kayan and Thea from their joint Multiply Account.
Upon arriving at Lake Sebu, we, camwhores immediately took pictures with the breathtaking view we have from our sight. We stayed in a house just in front of the big lake, and is big enough to accommodate the 45-student class we have. It is actually the old tourism house of Lake Sebu. So of course, there’ve been some horror stories which I ignored. Or pretended not to listen to any, haha.
Then had an earlier-than-usual dinner at around 7pm. I forgot the name of the dishes served to us. But what I can’t forget is that ALL of the meals we had back then, TILAPIA was always served, but served on different recipes.
Then, by 10pm, the fun continued. Talk and play to the maaxxx….
Others played card games, others played the Most Popular Game of All Time *LOL* Truth or Dare. While I was enticed to join the group of the drinkers. I don’t know why, but others didn’t believe me when I told them I’m not a drinker, haha. Di ba halata sa mukha? Gagu kayo ah? haha.
I first told them that I dont drink. So, I just bought 2 1-Litre Coke bottles, and I sinked myself in drinking my favorite cola. But my drinking seatmate Berly *who refused to be called such because her name is really Kimberly, lol*, was very good at convincing me to join them in drinking beer. It’s not that I was too weak to easily submerge myself with her “plead” for me to drink, but I just thought of drinking for the sake of socialization. Can’t believe it. I was able to drink four glasses of Red Horse.
At around 2am, we were still sooo awake. There were a lot of kisses all over the place, hehe. But it was purely for fun among us teenagers. Afterall, I have always believed teenagers of every generation are becoming more and more liberated and more and more “mapusok”. So you can only imagine what happened throughout the night and midnight, LOL. But, I dont have intentions of disclosing about it here, except mine, haha. But with permissions to the girl who kissed me.
Janine, who has always been vocal in telling me how much she adores me for my so-called beauty as a man, kissed me as a part of the Dare Game they had. So as always, I played with “it”.
Then by 3am Sunday morning. Still awake. Gossiping. LOL. Eventhough I wasn’t really feeling well that time, I was still happy because our room was crowded. When I say crowded, almost one-fourth of the class stayed in our room *while others were silently sleeping in their respective rooms* up until the wee hours of the morning to talk with a lot of senseful and even senseless things. But nevertheless, what’s more important and made me happier is that we bonded. We were so bonded, so close that I thought of praying that, that moment will not end. I might sound corny, but I mean it.
Then we woke up at 8am Sunday morning. I can still remember how we look and feel so freezing due to the super cold-ness of the place. By 9am, we went to the TBoli museum to learn some information about their tribe and Lake Sebu as well.
And oh, did I just mention that our classmate who organized this trip is their tribe’s princess in that area? The name is Kat, err.. Princess Kat, LOL. She’s in the pic below performing before our very eyes.
Err.. I’m not really good at storytelling, so I hope the pictures can do the talking. Pictures below are shot at the TBoli Museum.
After watching several tribe members performing for us, what I really liked was the Monkey Dance performed by an 8 year old lad. It was very entertaining because it even challenged some of our classmates to fight against him. Am so glad I wasn’t one of those challenged, I could have went back straight to our house, haha.
The Datu, dad of Kat, also delivered a short message for us. He was the one who told us about their tribe’s culture, the dowry thing which until now I’m still amazed. 60 horses, 40 carabaos, chickens, etc. have to be given before the Datu could allow a man to marry her daughter. Amazing because I didn’t know that until now, they still practice that tradition.
Kat, is a so-called loveteam-partner of mine in our class. And my goofy classmates warned me about it and Kat. And I gamely answered them,
“Bakit Kat, ilang hayop ba gusto mo? Si Wilvert, ok na? LOL.”
Then they all laughed.
After that, I learned and realized how rich the T’boli’s culture is. I didn’t know that some traditional practices are still being practiced in this point in time.
Anyways, we headed straight to Punta Isla Resort which is a 10-minute walk from the TBoli Museum. The lone commercial resort in Lake Sebu. A really nice place.
A classmate, in the name of Janine, jokingly asked me to carry her because the path to Punta Isla is on an upslope scale and told me that she’s a girl and she should be carried. Hayys.. And playing the gentleman that I am, I agreed to do so.
We went boating for only PHP50, which is already good for a 45-minute ride. Imagine how cheap the ride is? The girl who served as our tourist guide in the boat was very fluent in English. I didn’t thought she would be that good.

We contributed PHP 1,200 majority for the transportation and food expenses. Fee for the van transport there, the donation to the TBoli museum is already included in that contributed money.
A renewed friendship with Dimples * a friend way back grade school *, found new friendship with Loi, Jannine, Paula, Andrea, Kayan, Thea, Wilvert, XY, April, Pong, Berly, Eirol and Kat among others. The so-called Toshiro Cheber Group! LOL. Unfortunately, only us, can related and find the humor with the name of this group.
These are the people whom I was closest with before, during and after the class field trip. But, I still am looking forward for more bonding moments with the rest of my new classmates. Aftwerall, we’ll still be classmates for the next 5 months until anybody from us gets booted out from the program. But, I do hope all of us will be able to reach the cut.
Before our summer class, I told myself I won’t be spending much so as to save more money to help my mother. *What a sweet son I am, eh?*. But still, I spent a considerable amount of money for the entire summer and for this summer class field trip.
But thinking of THE JOURNEY, THE FUN MEMORIES AND THE PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH IT, I TOLD MYSELF, IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!
Go BSA- 1C!!!!
Note: It’s our first summer class. Just to correct initial reactions from my former classmates, we are taking summer classes not because we failed in any subject, but because it is a requirement for us who were able to PASS the First Year Accounting life and were able to make the cut for the 85-above-Accounting-WPA standards of the Accountancy Division in ADDU for us to proceed for second year.
Most of us don’t know other classmates yet since we come from other sections, that explains why we weren’t so close yet.

@Nelo,
Yes. The foggy mountain was a really nice experience, seeing it right before us.
Anyways, about your question:
I’ll be honest to you ha?
Davao to Lake Sebu is a 5-hour toxic transpo. Now, I couldn’t imagine coming all the way from Manila.
Another thing is that, Lake Sebu doesn’t really have many places to boast of. Not that I am saying it’s not a really good place, though. What I am trying to say is that in terms of trip-worthiness, it doesn’t really pay off.
Thanks for dropping by Nelo!

Ok maybe I’ll just include Lake Sebu as a sidetrip when I do a Mindanao escapade perhaps? Haha, kelan kaya?
Pansin ko lang, daming bloggers from the provinces and even the top bloggers aren’t from Manila. I wonder why?

@Jenny,

Yeah. Ako rin, am happy for what I have already achieved with the current status of this blog.
I think I’ll post the second entry about my love lift post sometime next week. Keep tabs nalang, hehe..
Thanks.

@Nelo,
Including it as a sidetrip, I believe, would be better. But it would be better-ER (LOL) if you invite me on your Mindanao trip escapade, haha.
Wait. Am from Davao City. And DC is not a province. Correct me if I’m wrong ha, feel ko kasi akala mo taga province ako. And I think you get the wrong idea that Davao is a province, lol.

Haha ok let me rephrase my statement.
‘Pansin ko lang, daming bloggers from places outside NCR, even the top bloggers aren’t from Manila. I wonder why?
’
Sige, you could be our tour guide pag nag-mindanao trip kami. Wala naman sigurong bayad no? Libre ka na lang namin ng breakfast, everyday. Fair enough? Hehe J/K
