ADDU Tao Awards 2009, Scrutinized
Posted on 20. Mar, 2009 by Bunsoi in Philippines' ET Industry, Teen Random Thoughts
The recently concluded ADDU or Ateneo de Davao University TAO AWARDS has received a lot of both positive and negative comments. The ADDU Tao Awards is similar with the Gandingan Awards of University of the Philippines or that of USTV Students’ Choice Awards of University of Santo Tomas. The Tao Awards is under the Humanities Division of ADDU, and serves as the award-giving body of the university for media members.
Before I give my feedback on the said awards-giving body, refer to the list below first:

I don’t have any contradicting points about the winners on the national scene. However, I do have some points to argue with the winners on the local scene.
For the Favorite Magazine Show Category, it SHOULD have been Istayl Nato. This show is hosted by Chuck Allie and Carine Cabebe. I didn’t chose this just because Chuck Allie is a student of ADDU, but because I believe Istayl Nato is waaayyy better than MagTV Na. I always get irritated everytime I see the faces of the hosts of MagTV Na. I don’t judge this just because of their mere physical apperance, but they definitely don’t have the good hosting skills. Chuck and Carine are way better hosts than the old hosts of the former. They have the wit, superb hosting skills, etc. I don’t know how the organizers and the administration of ADDU judged this, but definitely, MagTV Na doesn’t deserve to win the title.
ABS-CBN Regional Network Group executives, if you happend to read this, I do hope you consider reformatting the very “bakya” or mediocre MagTV Na, which would include replacing your faggot, scary and always shouting hosts. They irritates us. Well, I don’t want to name them.
Message to the ADDU Tao Awards Committee:
I was able to see your tarpaulin beside the ADDU elevators. But take note on what is written on the tarpau.
“Tao Awards 2009. Be there in your formal attire.”
The graphics did catch my attention. However, what’s written there didn’t. We, freshmen, don’t have any idea what on earth the ADDU Tao Awards was. I was only able to know that it is an award-giving body of ADDU when the winners were announced on ABS-CBN.
Next time, please make sure you have enough PR and exposure, so that Atenistas would know that there is such event about giving awards to the media existing. That being said, I remember a similar event I blogged here on BunsoiMagazine. It’s the very boring College Days of ADDU. I quoted one classmate of mine who said:
Ganyan siguro talaga dito sa ADDU, Pat. Nilalangaw lagi ang mga events nila. —
Is that a culture of ADDU? They give very minimal PR, and very few people attends events in the campus? —
Names withheld upon request.
Does that statement hurt? I’m not sure. But better luck next time people.
Going back. Had I known that my favorite anchor, Korina Sanchez was present, I would have not joined my classmates in Mcdo, and instead, I would have attended the ADDU Tao Awards. *peace*
Better luck next time, Atenistas!

yeaa. i totally agree with this post pat. i really thought that the event was for students with award winning services to the school. i mean, i didn’t even realize that it was similar with USTV Awards. haha! i overheard my classmate talking about it. luckily, her sister was a junior(i think) so she really knew what the TAO awards was all about. haha. poor thing freshies aren’t that properly informed. niaha.
PS. Istayl Nato is filled with YOUNG energies and it’s very kewl compared with Mag TV Na. haha. Mag TV Na hosts are sooooo yesterday. I think ABS should establish FRESH talents for the show to be compared with the other one. no offense to the hosts, though.

@Del,
Just checked every point of yours, and well taken.
All I can say… indeed.
I hope the ADDU Tao Awards organizers do their PR well next time, which means next year, hmpf.
Istayl Nato is Classy *with a capital C*; on the other hand, MagTV na is so like a “palengke”.

hi bunsoi. im one of the organizers of Tao Awards. and i happened to drop by your blog. anyway, i want to make it clear that Tao Awards was based on the survey we conducted from january to february. that was how we got the votes.it was based on readership, viewership and listenership.
yep, i guess hindi masyadong naadvertise ang Tao Awards. We were also informed that Korina Sanchez was coming 2 days before the event so hindi kami masyadong nakapag-advertise.
Also, i happened to be one of the organizers of Awitenista and read your blog about college days din.
magse-2nd year ka pa diba? Try to enjoy na lang the activities prepared by OSA or any club for that matter…para naman ma-enjoy mo yung college life mo…or join ka ng mga clubs and orgs that put up those event…
it is easy talaga to say things against or for something….talagang ganun yun…pero thanks sa comments mo about Tao Awards and Awitenista.
In fairness, I enjoyed reading and skimming through your entries ha! maka-subscribe nga.hehe

@Pre,
For the TAO Awards:
I see. It’s just that we were not properly informed about the award body’s existence, and even the exact criteria for the viewership, readership and listenership. Simply put, the information as to the Tao Awards was not properly disseminated.
Yes. Mag se-second year pa lang po ako. I’m trying as much as possible to enjoy every activity the ADDU and orgs/clubs has to offer. And yes, I’m also planning to join clubs/orgs come June 2009. Joining clubs is one of the few things I’d do by then.
About my comments, medyo na-gui-guilty ako, kasi when you google “ADDU college days”, and “ADDU tao awards”, lumalabas ang articles ko, to think na medyo negative ang mga yun.
Anyways, here’s expecting for better school activities in the coming weeks.
Thanks for dropping by and salamat sa pag subscribe!

bunsoi! char nman ng blog mu! hehehe
Pero even some of us, ur higher level skulmates, were unfamiliar and were clueless about this event. I think the very 1st TAO Awards pa lang man ni! hehehe
Pero tama ka brad, simply, the event should’ve been well disseminated to the majority. and when they promote it, much better if they briefly explain da event’s significance so as to that it will create interest to anyone concerned.
CHAR! hehe
But on the other hand nman, if this TAO Awards was well publicized to the school, I think magiging palengke rin ang event. hehe. Hearing the names of these TV personalities attending da event, syempre ma.ignorante pud tawon gamay ang mga studyante. so when this happens… baang! haha! dba?! hahaha. so anyway just ponder on da positive effect if why da event was not really made public. public! coz most probably, it would’ve been like a Barangay Event if everybody was informed. dba! hahaha!
But.. fortunately or unfortunately, we sometimes live by the saying… EVERYBODY HAS A RIGHT! hehehe
More power bunsoi! It’s nice to know sumone as young as u are, exercising and sharing his thoughts.. kuyaw kaau kag sideline ah! Char2 kaau. heheh. padayon lng dra! ayu2 bai!

@Nongvoyet23,
I was informed by a second yr college student na this is actually the second ADDU Tao Awards, the first one wasn’t well-publicized too. So, I understand if you guys don’t have any idea about this too, hehe.
I agree on the possibility that if it was really publicized, it could have been a circus with the students. But I believe Atenistas all have good breeding naman eh not to “palangke-ize” *if there’s such a word, haha* the event.
Thanks for dropping by Nonvoyet23!
PS: Just searched sa FS, si Kuya Ivan man diay ka, haha. Salamat Van sa pag comment, jeje.

I supposed when there are winners, there will also be losers. You can’t win all the time. If GMA won most of the awards, I’m sure pro-ABS will also react the same way.
I watch shows from both networks. There are shows that tickle my fancy and there are also those that just bore me to the death.
As per the “comparison” of Istayl to MagTV, I think there’s no comparison at all. Istayl is what you call “classy” while MagTV is “palengke” but they both deliver to their specific target markets – the former, to the youth, the latter, to the “masa”. However, I was expecting that my fellow Atenistas who made their comments above to be more intelligent in defining the shows and to know the audience that these shows were particularly made for.
Now, let’s keep it objective.
Personally, I don’t really like all the hosts of MagTV (but who cares, we’re talking about the show as a whole) but their show delivers the goods – there’s coherence of the segments, there’s rapport among the hosts, script is well written – whether it’s in English or Bisaya, and most importantly, it does not fail to make their audience feel light and happy especially for a program that’s being shown on late Sunday morning.
Fret not, those comments doesn’t make me hate Istayl. I have always believed that Istayl will improve since it has promising segments, good editing and above average visuals.
What I think that Istayl must do is that they should keep their segments consistent each week and keep a host dedicated to his segment. Having different hosts for the same segment makes the viewer detached from the segment. Also, the hosts must try to know their lines by heart because their spiels come out too scripted. Let go of the cliches! The hosts must also interact with each other with more sincerity because more often they come out as individuals trying to outdo each other (a fault that a host from MagTV also often commit almost consistently each week).
Speaking as a former media practitioner (*not with ABS) and a mass comm grad, to be more objectively blunt about it, Istayl’s fault is not in the contents because it’s “glossy” appeal is fresh especially for a local production. It’s fault lies more with its hosts. They may be young but it leaves the show wanting.
In addition, I don’t see what’s wrong with being “masa” . As a true blue Atenista, I was brought up with values that embrace differences, detest discrimination and encourage inclusion, not exclusion. And please, no name calling please. A real Atenista doesn’t call names that degrade or discriminate people because of their sexual preference. I always believe that we Atenistas have been taught to act accordingly and with respect towards other people.
To sum it up. if we question why ABS won more awards, the more intelligent way of finding out is to check the criteria and know how the nominated shows were judged, and not by subjectivity and assumption that will just lead to senseless and needless blahs.
Mabuhay ang Ateneo! More power to TAO Awards!
TrueBlueDurian
PS. If there’s a show from GMA that deserves the recognition, it’s Una Ka Bai. The segments are fresh, appealing and light (which is proper for a morning show), and most importantly, the hosts – special mention to Sarah and Derf – apart from having good chemistry, they are witty and appears very professional. Kudos!

@TrueBlueDurian,
I think there’s a nice point of comparison for both MagTV Na and Istayl Nato since both shows claim to be a TV magazine show.
As for Istayl Nato, I have to agree TrueBlueDurian na they really have to be consistent in assigning hosts for a particular segment. Kahit ako, I sometimes get confused when Jason once hosted Food To Go which is recognized as a segment of Chuck.
Another point of yours that I have to agree. The way Chuck and Carine delivers their scripts is just way too scripted. I hope you know and understand what I mean. Good interaction between two is rare, aside from their usual idiot board-reading, I suppose they’re using it.
Another point is that BOTH MagTV Na and Istayl Nato hosts seems trying to outdo each other. By shouting ( or should I say screaming ) while the other is speaking in the case of MagTv; and on the other hand, Chuck and Carine being so scripted when they talk that they look very conscious the way they utter their English words.
And yes, good editing and awesome graphic visuals is one of the advantages of Istayl over MagTv.
I don’t remember me saying being “masa” is bad. Definitely, it’s not a view of mine and will never be. I’m not a person of higher class in the society, therefore, it’s impossible for me to say anything against the “masa”.
Ok. I plead guilty for saying that offensive “faggot” word, but that’s the best that I could come up with.
Being an Atenista is not an issue here, and should not therefore be accustomed to me being the blogger who wrote that article. You may say that it should reflect, but I still have the prerogative whether I would want to manifest what I have learned or not; and in whatever way I want to express myself, nobody has the right to connect it with ADDU. Enough said.
This article is a mere review of what has transpired during the ADDU Tao Awards and NEITHER for questioning nor verifying the legibility and authenticity of the event’s awardees selection.
If you really read the article exhaustively, you should have known that nobody was questioning why ABS won more awards. I agree to it. The above-listed shows are all deserving, only one I believe isn’t. And now, I suppose you know why.
Una Ka Bai is indeed good. I was able to watch several episodes before.
Thanks for sharing your point of view in this issue. I believe everyone has his/her own opinion on this matter.
Thanks!

no.3 hahaha. uie as for istayl’s graphic visuals? haha walang originality. hahaha. amateur ang dating saken (hala. nanaway ko. bwahaha) like pat. haha yung kanilang motion graphics for each segment, nakita ko yun sa net even before they’ve aired it on tv for the first time (i guess). it’s called graffiti writing by videocopilot.

hi, i was also one of the organizers of the event. And yes, it’s true that we were not able to advertise the event well, and we apologize for that. but in defense rin sa group, it was not easy to pull of the event. We kinda expected people to react rin when it came to the winners, but i guess it’s already a known fact that mas malakas ang abs here in davao/mindanao. Even the surveys done nationally show that mas malakas ang abs. hopefully the next batch will be able to pull of a more organized tao awards next year.
in every competition, there will always be winners and losers…perhaps it will be an instrument to those who won to keep up their good work, and for those who lost to improve their work. healthy competition kumbaga. And more important than the awards given i guess, was that it was a venue for the different media practitioners to gather and mingle with each other.

02. Apr, 2009
@Jenny,
Thanks sa info. I don’t think naman siguro it’s an issue of originality. At least, they were able to show na magaling ang local media/graphic artists natin dito sa Davao, at kahit papano, ay nakakahabol tayo sa standards ng Manila. Although even editing and graphics in Manila naman is still below par with Hollywood db? So parang ang layo-layo pa talaga natin, hehe.

@Patricia,
I’m glad that there are already 2 organizers who happened to read this blog post of mine, and I hope it helps.
I understand fully well that it’s not really easy to put up an event as big as that, but what can I say, it’s your job. LOL.
If you have read the earlier comments, I think I’ve made myself clear that I was not questioning the list of winners, ONLY for that very one. I suppose you know what I mean.
“And more important than the awards given i guess, was that it was a venue for the different media practitioners to gather and mingle with each other.”

I think, as an Atenista, you should have had the responsibility to know about this event since you yourself represent the Ateneo de Davao University. What if somebody asked you about an event in your school that you did not bother to know about? You yourself would give bad PR to that person who asked you. We are all responsible for creating a good image and exposure for our school. Even a slight mistake in grammar in your blog could make your readers think that Ateneans are stupid. Mind you, the Humanities Division, in all its efforts, gave its best to advertise the said event.
“The graphics did caught my attention. However, what’s written there isn’t. We, freshmen, don’t have…”
Let me correct your statement. “The graphics did CATCH my attention. However, what’s written there DIDN’T.”
You’re not even creating a good image of yourself!
As an Atenean, you should have known better than just to be amused by mere graphic presentations. An Atenean should be well-informed. You, Freshman, are on college grounds now – you will not be spoon-fed anymore. You need to take responsibility on knowings things. Especially you responsibility as an Atenean. Certainly, if you asked around for information about the Tao Awards, you would’ve known something about it.
And about you questioning the award given to MagTV Na: The results of the awards were taken from a very credible survey distributed on the respondents, the AdDU students. As people trained to be media practitioners, the Humanities Students only reflected the votes of the Ateneo de Davao University community. The TV show who had the most votes won.

And Bunsoi, the Tao Awards was an exclusive event for the important people in Ateneo and the media world. Your wouldn’t fit there with you 300-peso ukay-ukay suit.
Wow! You’re earning four dollars with this site of yours??? Wow, that’s really…crappy.
And another thing: hindi nilangaw ang Tao Awards because it never had the purpose of having a big crowd. Just Me
02. Jun, 2009
Hey there!
A friend sent me the link to this and I just couldn’t resist clicking it right away (former MC student, go figure. -__-).
To begin, I want to introduce myself as a member of the Humanities class team that was assigned to some (note: some, not all) College Days events. I wasn’t a TAO Awards organizer but let me tell you I witnessed the blood and tears my friends went through. Heck! I was even dragged into the ruckus without even meaning to, shall we say, support too much.
I must say I’m very impressed that a Freshman has got this much to say about the happenings in the campus (and shame on me for being any less active than you when I was your age).
Regardless of the angry comments or responses (seriously, try not to mind them too much. It’s natural to feel angered with negative feedback. Perhaps, when you get around to organizing events of your own, you would understand), I must say this page alone has proved the university wasn’t as dead as I thought it was. Sad to say I graduated before I could realize this.
I really envied you guys back then, during crunch time ‘coz I barely got any time to sit around and watch anymore. It’s really scary being on the front lines I tell you.
So hail freedom of speech (shame to those who have forgotten our fateful “freedom of spit” lessons ^_~) and mabuhay ka Bunsoi! I just hope the very same talent for writing you’ve got would instead bridge the gap between the divisions back there instead of destroying it further.
Now, what do I expect with this lengthy post? Well, quite a few simple things really. A little truce (ceasefire, peace treaty whatever) between those hurt and those pained. Please don’t see everything we post from now on as verbal attacks to you (and you keep that spirit of yours m’kay? It’s good ADDU still has kids like you… really it is). It just smarts (just in case I get corrected… that is proper. A bit slang yes, but I haven’t erred. Smarts IS a verb too) when one’s hard work is negatively responded to.
SO to wrap this long winded post up:
Please try to critique a bit more gently. No lies necessary, just a bit of compassion please.
As for the rest of the posters, try not to fan the flames any more.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. *flashes peace sign*
Jaa.

@Humanities,
Let me answer your points one by one:
For your first point:
I don’t think a slight mistake in my English grammar could make my readers think Ateneans are stupid. Why? Because I believe my readers, regardless of what university they’re enrolled with, are intelligent enough to understand that I do not necessarily represent the capacity of the members of the Ateneo de Davao studentry English writing skills-wise.
Second point:
Thank you for correcting grammatical errors in this post. I sincerely thank you. However, this post isn’t about excellent English grammar skills, right? Now, what I am getting at is that, I never claimed to be a proficient or excellent English writer. It’s just that I have sufficient funds for me to put up a self-hosted blog, and have posted a blog entry about this matter.
Thank you.

@Humanities,
I will never tell Jenny to mind her own school. She didn’t post a comment here as a representative of SPC, right? She’s here because she just wanted to give us her opinion about the ADDU activity.
“Im sure Jenny can write a whole book about the flaws of the puny SPC. I can write three.” Oh please?
May I remind you of what your first comment above says.
“We are all responsible for creating a good image and exposure for our school.”
If we really are all responsible for creating a good image for our beloved school, then why comment on SPC like that? Having said about the “flaws of the puny SPC”, I think that’s an enough indication that you, yourself is eating your own words.
P.S.: The Bunsoi name as awful? Gahd. What a very SIGNIFICANT and VAlLD SEGUE for your comment. Like as if that makes any worth? Hayss…

@MC4 ADDU,
So the Tao Awards was an exclusive event for the important people in Ateneo and the media world? Why then was there a tarpaulin on the side of elevator which has “Be there in your formal attire†text in it? Why put that tarp in the area where really important people seldom pass? Unless, they have plans of inviting students like us. Now that makes your first point weak.
“Your wouldn’t fit there with you 300-peso ukay-ukay suit.”
Not again? Ladies and gentlemen, that statement is one of the reasons why students from other schools find students of ADDU as PAMATI, HAMBOG or HILAS.
Tapos? Ano ngayon if I wear a 300-peso worth ukay ukay suit? Would that make me less of a person? Moreover, would that make me less of an Atenista? Think about it.
Now. I’d like to throw you a question.
Bay, niagi kag FYDP, Theo and CWTS? If ever niagi ka ato na mga subjects, obviously you weren’t paying attention to it.
“We wanted a small gathering of IMPORTANT people and ugly first year accountancy students were not included in our list.”

@JustMe,
Thanks for the compliment.
Unfortunately, I have already posted my response to their respective commenters before I read your advice on not minding them too much.
“I must say this page alone has proved the university wasn’t as dead as I thought it was.”
You’re not alone. I thought it was too. Until this very day that I am receiving negative comments on this blog and some Atenistas’ Multiply accounts.
“and mabuhay ka Bunsoi! I just hope the very same talent for writing you’ve got would instead bridge the gap between the divisions back there instead of destroying it further.”
But honestly, I don’t have intentions of destroying the Humanities division and its relations with other divisions. I hope I made myself clear on that point.
Point noted. I’ll keep this in mind.
“It just smarts (just in case I get corrected… that is proper. A bit slang yes, but I haven’t erred. Smarts IS a verb too) when one’s hard work is negatively responded to.”
Buti na lang. Kasi apparently, lootss of commenters on this post are very cautious on grammatical errors like as if they don’t commit such from time to time.
Thanks for sharing your view on this matter, and I really appreciate the effort for submitting your comment. That I believe is the real essence and one perfect example of a constructive criticism.
Rest assured that I’ll be following your tips.
Flashes peace sign to YOU, too. LOL.

SA MGA PALAAWAY:
Foremost, even if the program was born out of the whole Humanities Division’s passion or perspiration, still we cant deny the fact that anyone can label it as a flop. As a masscom student, you should have known better, like any other program, spectators would not even care of the difficulty of the preparation of production, what we need is the quality of the output. It just so happen, it didn’t sell. As a masscom student, as you categorize yourself, i can’t see anything wrong in bunsoi’s post, its like a mirror, and it simply reflects reality.
Frankly speaking, TAO AWARDS was a FLOP, “NILANGAW” and even “COPYCAT”
TRUTH HURTS MY DEAR. DUUH! SO JUST ACCEPT IT!
More so, it is very ironic nowadays that some of the press(including those who aspire) who speak loudly about the freedom of the expression are themselves the enemies of freedom. Countless people dare not say a thing because they know it will be picked up and made a song and mock by the press, that limits freedom. This post is an elaborate example of freedom of speech, as a masscom student, you should have known better, again, that this is a freedom of expression and so let it be, so be it.
Bunsoi is just being truthful! Congrats to him!
p.s.: this comment is purposive. Take this as a lesson.

hey pat. i shouldn’t be involved in this because i’m not an atenista in the first place. haha. well anyfuckinway, i just think that people are being sooo melodramatic about this post, yenno. dude, it’s a free world. people blog about stuff they wanna write about. this is his blog and he’s free to write whatever the hell he wants to write about. these people should just use yer critic on their event as a tool to better improve the event, right? they shouldn’t be so bitter about it.

This is just to let you know i hold no hard feelings for you Being a requirement to help in this event, i saw the hardship my friends went through. I understand your point of view because these are not your friends, you were not their backstage to see the sweating and well the nervous faces. So indeed i believe there is no better person to write a critique then you!
You see i would have never been able to write such an article no matter what my true feelings were, during the event it would be a double edged sword. If i were to write a positive one i would seem bias if i where to write a negative one. i won’t seem such a nice person. and well i cant possibly put myself into writing a negative article, Because i saw the “backstage part of the event” as they say the truth hurts and i don’t want to hurt my friends.
I am a fan of freedom of speech, being a blunt person i would like to tell you,That being an Atenean should not hold you from speaking your mind.

I think it’s amusing when people get angry at posts like this. It’s not your fault that your opinions are different that theirs, is it? (^∇^)
Anyway, I’d like to agree that MagTV Na’s is kind of… wtf. I don’t really watch local shows but from what I’ve seen, Istayl Nato’s hosts are much more tolerable than MagTV Na’s. That, or my tastes are just very different from everybody else’s. (After all, I’m not fond of Charice Pempengco or Twilight or Manny Pacquiao.)
As for the tarpaulin, I’m not so surprised by it’s… um… not-so-nice-ness, considering every other tarp and sign inside the AdDU campus are just as hideous. I’m not so sure why they use ugly or inappropriate fonts or fill the whole things with too much graphics and not enough info.
I belong to the Humanities division so don’t say I’m being harsh just because I’m not Human.
Well I guess we’ll do our best to make it better next year. :\

@HUMANITIES:
Besides, wala naman atang sinabing masama si Jenny about your school…
PS.
@MC4 adDU:
“And Bunsoi, the Tao Awards was an exclusive event for the important people in Ateneo and the media world.”
—->May point si Bunsoi. If it was an exclusive event for the important people in Ateneo (heyyy!
“Your wouldn’t fit there with you 300-peso ukay-ukay suit.”
“Wow! You’re earning four dollars with this site of yours??? Wow, that’s really…crappy.”
—> Judgemental ka ha…. Bakit nabasa mo ba lahat ng blogs niya?
“And another thing: hindi nilangaw ang Tao Awards because it never had the purpose of having a big crowd.
We wanted a small gathering of IMPORTANT people and ugly first year accountancy students were not included in our list.”
—> Well, since di naman nilangaw ang event, CONGRATS! Great achievement! Ugly accountancy students were not invited?
” I’m so sorry… Try joining next year. They won’t let you in, of course. But maybe you’ll be given a candy. Yeay!!!”
Next time, use your name. Di ka naman pagagalitan e. Freedom of expression yan.
@JENNY:
Okei lang na magcomment. Mag-ingat ka lang sa words mo.
@BUNSOI:
Blogger ka naman e. Basta alam mo lang limit mo and alam mong responsibility mo lahat ng nakasulat dito. Go ka lang. Naniniwala akong personal opinion mo naman to.
PARA SA LAHAT:
Kaya nga we go to school diba to learn, hindi lang para matuto ng math, english and the like.
So next time, gawin niyo yun para maging mas maayos yung next event. Anyway, PERSONAL OPINION niya yun. Meron din naman kayong opinion dba? Magcomment kayo sa event, huwag sa reaction niya.

I would like to stress it out again that “it is very ironic nowadays that some of the press(including those who aspire) who speak loudly about the freedom of the expression are themselves the enemies of freedom. Countless people are now afraid of voicing out their feelings, because they know that their form of expression may negatively be spice up by the narrow-press.”
0ne more point, to all the organizers and people who are affected with this blog review of “TAO AWARDS”, just think that even FAMAS and OSCARS are not exempted of receiving negative critics, so are you. This is not about being atenean, this is not about being considerate as a fellow student, this is not about who helped and who did not, more over, my comments is not solely about the validity and quality of winners and awarding body itself, but this is born out of your condemning replies towards bunsoi which we know is out of sense and relatively limits what we call freedom of speech.
Again, So be it.
We’ll be glad to hear from you guys that you will do better next time; far better.

oryt oryt…. so here’s the thing…
all of you are yapping about freedom of speech yada yada yada… so don’t those who think bunsoi’s criticism is downright stupid deserve this “freedom of speech” as well?
OKAY, we get it, you think TAO awards was a flop but don’t those who think otherwise deserve to air out their opinion as well? I mean, you (bunsoi) gave harsh comments (NOT at all constructive criticism if you ask me – you didn’t even offer suggestions) why can’t the others who oppose you?
with that said… allow me to air out how I think of you and your oh-so-talked-about-blog mr. bunsoi person.
if you think you’re sooooo great and you know everything why don’t YOU direct the next TAO Awards. Stand beside Sir RIkki and become a witness to his PR greatness. Write and send invitations to media practitioners who don’t give sh** about some lame awards night (which turned out to be awesome if you ask me). Have the Finster Aud reserved with all the sound system, Projector and Monitor.. and while your at it, provide a laptop as well. Contact the host. write her/his script. organize the program. rehearse in a very HOT auditorium for over 3 hours. edit the OBB of the awards. Design the Tarpaulin (since you’re so “great” at criticizing such things – hence gloating of your mastery in the field) AND DURING THE PROGRAM ITSELF: prepare a back up for technical difficulties, provide food and water for the host. wait for the guests to arrive. usher VIP’s such as Korina Sanchez, Gabby Concepcion, and other big media people (we’ll see if your armpits won’t produce disgusting armpit circles on your polo)
The event did have it’s flaws but given the fact that it’s the first ever, i think it deserves credit. they pulled it off well. As for the advertising, perhaps there is a lot of room for improvement and that is for the next batch to work on (US!)
so that’s pretty much it… i did appreciate your courage to trash talk your school’s (well… not exactly… since it was of the SAS’s) event. hey i have an idea… why don’t YOU host the next TAO AWARDS!! since you love all the attention so much!!! what do you think fellow masscom students??
oh and by the way… grammar DOES matter. why else would the University have a remedial for it?? Could you forgive an event host to have so much grammatically incorrect sentences because it’s the ‘CONTENT” that matters?
I was BLINDED by your awful grammar so much that I could hardly concentrate on the content – as if it really did need that much attention.
You’re a “BLOGGER” for Pete’s sake… you use WORDS to move, entertain, inspire and anger – if you must – people. why don’t you host some AM station or something. that way, you can trash talk (or comment – ok so i admit that you do have blogs where you’re in touch with your good side) all you want without worrying about the language you use. (no offense to the AM stations, they have their benefits)
so yeah… i think i got a wee bit carried away…

Let’s admit it… The event was not well attended (when it should have been because duh, it’s a university-wide activity). By 6 pm, someone I know who served as an usherette was “begging” us to attend the event para hindi raw halatang konti lang ang tao. Kahit i-deny pa yan nila, that’s the truth… Ok lang nga raw kahit naka pants and shirt lang kami.
But then, I say this not to put Ateneo de Davao’s TAO Awards down… This should be a wake-up call that as in any event held in school, there should be ample advertising.
And to all those haters out there, please! Guys, why can’t you accept negative criticisms? I personally know the hard work you’ve invested in the event. It really hurts to have your efforts dissed. But I believe all this is for a good reason… It’s just to inform you guys that there should be proper evaluation of your event so that by next year, o diba, improved na siya… Talagang wala nang masasabing negative.

08. Jun, 2009
okayyy… i’m surprised that people are still talking about the TAO AWARDS.. hehe
i’m also one of the organizers of the said event.. and honestly, i understand where bunsoi is coming from.. i mean, i admit that we had certain lapses in advertising the event..
but personally, i don’t think that the event was a flop.. Considering it was the first TAO AWARDS on a grand scale (technically, it’s the 2nd tao awards. however, the 1st one was exclusive only to the humanities students of ADDU), i believe we did a nice job in organizing it and we were able to pull it off..
also, people must understand why some of my fellow humanities students feel overly affected by the negative comments posted in this blog. you must realize that this was the first time the MASSCOMM department organized such an ambitious event as the TAO AWARDS..
just imagine how frightening it was for us to handle an event on a national scale… we had to plan and prepare repeatedly.. we had to conduct the survey during exam weeks when most students aren’t that cooperative towards us(understandably).. and then we had to bother every establishment in the city for us to scrape enough funds just so we could push through the event.. and let’s not forget that we had to encourage guests to care enough to come to our event.. and i’m not talking mere DJs and production assistants, but presidents, executives, station managers, and other VIPs of giant networks in the country.. all of these WITH only little assistance from our instructor..!
really, with all the difficulties and the pressure, i’m just glad we were able to give it our best shot.. in fact, i’m quite proud of what we were able to accomplish..
anyhow, i just hope that the next organizers will be able to take in all these criticisms so that they will be able to pull off an even better and more successful TAO AWARDS. it really isn’t that easy to organize such an event. Just think sweat, blood, and tears… LITERALLY..
peace!!
L

“I don’t have any contradicting points about the winners on the national scene.
ABS-CBN Regional Network Group executives, if you happend to read this, I do hope you consider reformatting the very “bakya†or mediocre MagTV Na, which would include replacing your faggot, scary and always shouting hosts. They irritates us. Well, I don’t want to name them. ”
Ano bang class ang kinabibilangan mo? A,B,C,D,E…?

if you don’t tolerate your co-atenistas on doing so, how would you progress on organizing future events if in the first place you disregard such opinions? good thing i’m in an institution where freedom of expression is much much valued.
of course oppositions exist in any events or the like. you must have prepared yourselves: not to expect that that event will be praised by everyone.

Bunsoi, I know you personally. Huwag lang masyadong mayabang.
Also, para naman di nakakaasiwang basahin blog mo, check on grammar and syntax please. Or better yet, write in your native language. This is not to demean you or anything… It’s just a way of showing you a constructive criticism.

BUNSOI,
your usage of the word faggot and your retraction of its use seems ironic seeing that i think you’re a faggot yourself. your choice of eyewear and your button nose give it all away.
i’d like to congratulate those who put the TAO awards together. It’s not easy to mount an event in which Korina Sanchez would give a rat’s ass about, which in this case she did by being present, so, kudos! I bet the only event you can prepare, BUNSOI, is an orgy for underachieving, pretentious and insipid faggots like yourself who try to mix it up in the real world by being all talk (with hideous grammar) and no spine. so yeah, congratulations too for your online life for i dont think you’d do well interpersonally in the cellular world..
It’s funny you should pick on the hosts of MAg-TV Na, since they are way out of your league and respected, maybe not by you, but by most of the who’s who of Davao City. Check out their portfolio- a single page of which will put your entire life’s achievements to shame.
I think you have a lot to learn, and since you chose to open your faggot ass mouth, people here will choose to school you. Starting with that in mass media, you have to think before you open your mouth, since words do not travel in time machines and there is no magic keystroke to undo errand statements.
Mag TV is ‘bakya’, palengke and whatnot? Well that format of being bakya and palengke seems to be the formula for longevity is it not? Judging from the TV ratings and revenue streams, bakya is big money. Where is Istayl Nato now? Last i heard from an insider, they’ve got no sponsorship, no revenue. I don’t know if they’re reformatting or whatever, but it goes to show that in the real world, bakya and palengke is where the money is. If you cannot swallow being bakya and palenke then go watch cable.

Regarding the issue of this blog, I am well aware why MagTV na won. Why? Just like Erap, his moto will always be “Erap para sa mahihirap.” Pang-masa ang MagTV na. I have nothing against Chuck Allie and my Ate’s former classmate, Carine Cabebe. That’s just the way it is. If you’ve tried comparing MagTV na and Istayl nato, MagTV na is for the mass people and Istayl nato features resorts, bar, etc. SInce your an Atenean, obviously you have money to spare for those luxuries seen in Istayl nato. That’s why MagTV na won even though they have, as you say it, bad hosts.
Tao Awards is an event organized by the MassCom students of the Humanities Division. Have you ever heard of it? I guess so since you’ve seen our tarp. But have you tried attended or just even took a glimpse of the event? I heard you we’re at Mcdo that time. So, why would you care to scrutinize the Tao Awards? Weren’t you curious of that event? It was up to you to attend and know what exactly the event is rather than complain100x!
I want you to remember this, nothing is free anymore. Self service na tanan gaya anang Maq’s ug JFC. Naa sa imoha ang initiative to go upstairs and be curious. But, you where enjoying every meal that you have in Mcdo. Very fattening for you. Mura kag politiko! Besides, dili diay dato among division. Kanya-kanyang kayod ang amoa! So kung dako jud ka ug problema sa Tao Awards then go upstairs and we’ll have a little chit chat. I expect you to go there. Business Management na diay ko, Pare. Duol ra kaayo sa Accountancy.

Wow! Second year na diay ka? Accountancy diba? Good. Your are really making an impression to yourself and to your friends.
Now, since labad yapon akong ulo, I’ll tell you something. 3 years nako sa Humanities. Na-officer ko once. Lisod man jud kay dapat balance ang academics ug events. Katong time na naay TAO awards, sure ko naglisod tanan… Pasabot nako TANAN! Kung wala mi ga-shoot, gasulat mi ug assignment or projects and research papers. I can deny the fact na maglisod mi ug contact sa mga first year masscom students labi na kalat ang sectioning.

THE EVENT WAS NOT WELL ATTENDED. PERIOD. IT WAS A PR FAIL. PERIOD. WHY WOULD FOURTH YEAR MASSCOMM STUDENTS WHO SERVED AS USHERS AND USHERETTES “BEG” STUDENTS PASSING BY THE CORRIDORS TO ATTEND THE EVENT BECAUSE “WALA MASYADONG AUDIENCE”?
THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THE ORGANIZERS FAIL TO TOTALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS A PR FAIL. THEY EITHER ATTRIBUTE IT TO THE “SOBRANG DAMING THINGS” THEY HAD TO DO IN ORGANIZING THE EVENT OR “IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ATENEANS LIKE BUNSOI’S OBLIGATION” TO BE WELL UPDATED. HAY.
SANA SA NEXT TAO AWARDS, ALL OUT NA SA PR. OO NGA, BUSY KAYONG MGA ORGANIZERS. ANG DAMI-DAMI NIYONG GINAGAWA. BUT HELLO? IT COMES WITH THE TERRITORY OF BEING MASSCOMM STUDENTS; KAHIT DI MASSCOMM, BUSY…SO WE GET IT. BUT THE THING IS, IT’S A SINGULAR EVENT THAT NEEDS ALL THE PUBLICITY AND OTHERS WON’T CARE ABOUT WHY YOU FAILED. THEY JUST KNOW YOU FAILED.
AS ASPIRING MEDIA PRACTITIONERS, YOU OUGHT TO BE ACCEPTING OF CRITICISMS LIKE THIS BECAUSE THE MEDIA IS A TOUGH PLAYING FIELD. HELLO? DI NA YAN ATENEO NA SINUSUBUAN KAYO LAHAT. THE OUTSIDE WORLD WON’T ADJUST WITH YOU; YOU PLAY WITH THEIR RULES.
SANA MATUTUO NA ANG MGA MASSCOMM STUDENTS SA INCIDENT NA ITO–SA TAO AWARDS AND SA FUTURE CRITICISMS THAT MIGHT CONSEQUENTLY FOLLOW.
ANI LANG.
ALL THE BEST,

Ok… PR failure… But the question is… Where was the author of this critic at at the time of the TAO awards?
NASA MACDONALD NAGPATABA!
So, do you see why I can’t accept someone’s (Bunsoi’s) criticism?
It may sound that he has the right to write about the TAO awards but he has no right since he never tried attending such event. So, unsaon mani maghulat nalang pud sa sunod TAO awards?

NAKAKAPAGOD KAYA YANG GINAGAWA NIYO.
TOTAL, TAPOS NA YAN, KALIMUTAN NIYO NA.
NASIRA BA ANG PANGALAN NIYO SA LABAS? HINDI NAMAN A… AS IF NAMAN KAYO LANG DIN ANG NAKARANAS NG GANYANG ISSUE…
BAT BA ANG LAKING ISSUE NYAN SA INYO?
KANYA-KANYANG LAGLAGAN NA KAYO… KUNG MAS MAY NAKAKAHIYA MAN KESA SA SINASABING “FAILURE” NG TAO AWARDS, YUN AY ANG PATULOY NIYONG PAG-AAWAY DITO…. TANGGAPIN NIYO NALNG KUNG ANO ANG NANGYARI… AND MOVE ON.
KUNG MALI MAN SI BUNSOI O HINDI… PROBLEMA NIYA NA YUN…

What’s the issue with this post? Mr. Bunsoi just posted (better term – expressed) his opinion on the recently concluded ADDU Tao Awards (which I think is not a prestigious event — also an opinion).
But I think, Mr. Bunsoi should have better expressed his opinion in a constructive manner of writing. He himself should have knw that since this is publicly published (online). He should knw too that everyone who read this is also free to express his/her opinion/comment against it. Also as a blogger (considered as an online journalist), Mr. Bunsoi must be responsible for what he published in purpose of free expression.
–
Just want to share to give light to everyone who posted a comment (and to those who will be posting), the freedom to express our thoughts is an important part of our individual identity. When we talk and write about our opinions we are contributing ideas and participating in society. It is crucial to the survival of democracy. Without it, we will be defeated from our PURSUIT AND DISCUSSION of TRUTH. With this statement and on the issue on this post, NO ONE IS TO BE BLAMED. Everyone deserves to express, just listen and be open and not be harsh. (Bawal ang high blood, kaya daming namamatay eh).
I will leave this quote I borrowed from Noam Chomsky:
“If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.â€
So there no need to rebut — it will just be a waste of time.

TAO AWARDS should be named as KONTENG TAO AWARDS
what a crap!! haha. i don’t want to make this comment long..my point is if the school’s objective is to make known an award giving body like this what they should do is…
gather the public, put some color and taste in the event, and make it more MAKA”masa”
i agree…unless this event has not proven its attraction to ateneans, it’s not worthy to be named as a prestigious award giving body! A NILALANGAW EVENT is a USELESS EVENT! —im hoping they will improve TAO AWARDS, because this event will either improve or worsen ateneo’s name!
